Joan Minogue

Joan Minogue (nee Kelly) 1931 – 2005 was a stalwart of the Kilmore Agricultural and Pastoral Society being an active member most of her life. Her father, the late Cr. John Kelly, was a Life Member of the Society, so Joan grew up with the Show in her blood; she loved it.

From a very young age she successfully exhibited her knitting, needlework and cooking, not only in the Kilmore Show, but in numerous other county shows, eventually graduating to the Royal Melbourne Show where again she was successful. Over the years she has won many awards, which included Most Successful Exhibitor on many occasions and Victorian Agricultural Society of Australasia (VASA) awards.

Joan encouraged her daughters and later her granddaughters, as well as other young people to take an interest in the Show and enter an exhibit. She was a competent Judge in Homecraft and judged at many country shows. She was a committee member and Chief Steward in the Homecraft pavilion for the Kilmore Show and spent many hours proof reading the show schedule and organising lunches etc. for officials and judges. In December 1992, Joan was justly awarded Life Membership of the Society.

In memory of Joan’s contribution to the Kilmore Agricultural Show, the show committee awards a Joan Minogue Memorial Award each year.

Maree Marr won the 2011 Joan Minogue Memorial Trophy for her beautiful quilt.

A healthy balance of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure is important for health. Too much UV from the sun can cause sunburn, skin damage, eye damage and skin cancer.

In Victoria average UV levels are three and above from the beginning of September to the end of April, this covers the time of the Kilmore show which is held on the first Saturday of December each year. During these months particular care should be taken during the middle of the day between 10am – 3pm (when the show is in full swing), as UV levels reach their peak.

With this in mind, the Kilmore Agricultural and Pastoral Society has developed a Sunsmart Policy.

Sponsorship Opportunities

There are still opportunities to sponsor and support the 2011 Kilmore Show. This year the Kilmore Agricultural and Pastoral Society has introduced a 2011 Kilmore Show Sponsorship Package ranging from donations under $20 through to platinum supporters with donations over $500.

As another way of recognising supporters and sponsors, there will be a table at the show where all local supporters and sponsors can display their business cards or fliers, with a sign “Please support the local business that support out Show”.

The 2010 show attracted over 1200 people, illustrating the advertising potential of being involved in the Show.

We appreciate that local business are often asked to support local events and groups, with this in mind the Show Committee appreciates any donation that can be made.

A sponsorship package for the 2012 show, our 150th show!, will be published shortly.
